Dwarf Purple Isopod: Trichorhina tomentosa

These are great to add to your bioactive enclosure. Eating all kinds of waste matter that gets into the soil!

Life span: up to 3 years.

Native to: Tropical Regions of the Americans

Terrarium: Your terrarium should be a blend of decomposing leaves, wood and black earth. Additionally you can add a variety of the following: sand, sphagnum moss, cork bark, hard wood tree bark, clean black earth (potting soil without chemicals or fertilizers). Great hiding spots can be created for your species with different types of moss, leaves and barks. Ensure your terrarium has a lid, and is ventilated. 

Temperature: 20 - 28°C

Humidity: 3/3 moist

They LOVE humidity

Diet: Isopods are detritivores: primary food is rotting/dead plant matter. They will also eat small amounts of protein, certain fruits and vegetables (carrots, potato, apples). Protein can be provided through: fish flakes, other dead insects such as crickets or mealworms. 

Difficulty: easy 

Reproductive rate: prolific

This species is parthenogenic so it is extremely quick to get a good colony going
